Apocalyptic Coming-of-Age!
Rekco, a young teenage boy, comes under the care of a mercenary named Maven after his mother passes and his father disappears. Together Maven and Recko are joined by magic-wielding Kyoku and his mentor. Their coming together is no accident, they have a joint mission. It is not clear what havoc their uniting will create.
The author, Marvin North weaves a story that blends experiences and life lessons into a journey of self-discovery and growth. The characters that come together in this tale are authentic to those of being bullied, being the bully, shy, confused, strong-willed, and kind. Taking measure of one’s actions and inner being is an “aha” moment. While the story is action-filled, it is still more of a coming-of-age tale that readers of all ages can appreciate. The apocalyptic feel to this book enhanced the coming-of-age and strong characters.
The narrator, Scott Fleming provides a multitude of voices uniquely distinct for each. His voices are strong and delivered smoothly. He speaks clearly and with a steady cadence that allows one to absorb the story easily.
There are many battles within this book but the inner struggles for me, are the most telling.
There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook, it was well done.
